Forecast: A double barreled system will hit the Southwestern United States over the weekend. Snow will start as early as Saturday evening in the watch areas, and go through Sunday. Snowfall amounts will vary depending on your location, but the Winter Storm Watch zones could easily see over 6″ of snow.
Gusty winds will accompany the storm so this could turn into a Winter Storm Warning in spots along with a Blowing Snow Advisory in others when the final forecast is made on Saturday morning. Then, you will get the final snowfall maps with the amounts. These watches are issued 48 hours ahead of storms, which allows you to know it is being monitored and the final numbers will be with the final alerts.
A Winter Storm Watch means conditions are becoming favorable to upgrade to warning for heavy snow at times along with gusty winds, but fails to have the amounts needed for a blizzard. A Winter Weather Watch is issued ahead of an advisory for less snow, but still conditions there for snow+wind.
