Arizona Weather Force has issued a Special Weather Statement effective late Friday night and going through half of Saturday for thunderstorm dynamics in the following areas: Maricopa and Yavapai County, parts of the Mogollon Rim, and the Central to Northern Colorado River Valley zones, which will include Quartzsite and Kingman as well.

An upper-level low that churning west of California at this time will slowly make its way eastward over the next couple of days.  As it does so, upper-level dynamics will move into the statement areas.  Today however, Southern and Southeast Arizona is under my Weather Advisory.  This weather advisory was only issued via the e-mail/app system to members on it due to a small section of the state being affected.  You can view that advisory for today at Reference A Link below.

As for the main focus zone.  On Friday evening, southerly flow will bring mid-level instability into the region, out of Mexico.  This mid-level instability will work with the upper dynamics out ahead of the main storm system and as it does so, thunderstorms will pop-up out of nowhere.  The strongest chances will be in Maricopa and Yavapai County, where dynamics are maximized.

Should an official Thunderstorm Watch need to be issued for this event, it will be issued here at Arizona Weather Force on Friday afternoon, but this article will serve as a ‘pending’ watch or advisory.

SUNDAY/MONDAY WIND – If you are along or near the Colorado River Valley, expect gusty to damaging winds out of the north.  Warnings will be needed over the weekend for the time said in this paragraph.
