Arizona Weather Force has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, for the following zones;
Issued Zones: Pima, Pinal, Maricopa, Yavapai County, Santa Cruz, and Gila County … Mogollon Rim … Flagstaff to Grand Canyon … Western half of Graham and Cochise County …
Date Issued: July 2nd, 2025 at 10:20am PDT
Discussion: Radar shows storms developing a bit earlier than yesterday across the San Francisco Peaks and over in Southeastern Arizona near Tucson. These storms will continue to form and populate the higher terrains as we move through the noon /early afternoon hours. Outflow from these will be stronger than yesterday, with instability being 3x higher than yesterday across the region. Explosive thunderstorms are expected in Tucson’s forecast zone, which will send outflow in every direction around it, sparking more storms through Pima and Pinal County. Storms from the rim will move through and develop storms over the Prescott forecast zones yet again. All outflow from the north and south will converge later in the period for the populated zones of Pinal and Maricopa County where you thunderstorm chances are elevated.
The Arizona Weather Force models indicate that two areas of very large hail will be possible today. One of them is Prescott’s forecast zone in Yavapai County, and the other is Central to Eastern Pima County, at and west of the Tucson zones.
Western Arizona along parts of the Colorado River Valley will continue with their thunderstorm watch issued in Reference A Link.
