Arizona Weather Force has issued two alerts for the state for today, September 2, 2025. Those two alerts will be the Severe Thunderstorm Watch, and Dust Storm Watch so read on for details.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH: This watch has an odd shape to it, but there are two focus spots within it that I will talk about. The first one is the Flagstaff to Bullhead City/Kingman forecast area. Severe Thunderstorms will form this afternoon and shove westward as the ridge of high pressure in Utah remains intact, with a strong mid-level flow. These storms will ride I-40 from Flagstaff and straight into the Kingman forecast area, and much of the southern half of Mohave County. Damaging winds, hail, and flooding is all expected with this event up there.
The second box is in Southern Arizona. Much of Pima County and the Gila Bend areas of Maricopa County will be impacted with fast developing severe thunderstorms, capable of damaging winds, large hail, and flooding through this afternoon and evening.
DUST STORM WATCH: With the explosive development of the Southern Arizona storms, extremely powerful downburst winds will rush down and spread northwest and northward from their position. Tucson (north of the watch) will receive the dust first … followed by Pinal County and then all of Maricopa County this evening. This looks to be one of those days of a massive dust storm, not just dust blowing in the wind. Looks to be a Major Dust Storm for this forecast.
WEDNESDAY: Can’t get too much into it now, but Wednesday is going to be where a lot of Arizona goes up in thunderstorms, including TUCSON, PHOENIX, PINAL COUNTY, PRESCOTT, AND YES KINGMAN AGAIN. You’ll need to keep it to Arizona Weather Force on that day and through the rest of the storm pattern as we have several more days (some extremely severe) left to come.
