Severe Thunderstorms for The Western half of Arizona Today; July 23, 2024; Includes Prescott to Maricopa County

Arizona Weather Force has issued the Severe Thunderstorm Outlook for July 23, 2024.

Zones Issued For:  Yavapai County – Mohave County – including Lake Havasu to Kingman – La Paz County – Most of Maricopa County – Western half of Pima County – Payson

Discussion:  The ridge of high pressure remains to the northwest of the forecast area today and will remain there for most of the week.  A strong northeast flow in the mid-levels will bring storms off the higher terrain and into the lower terrain later today.  These storms missed the Prescott Valley areas yesterday and formed all around it.  However, today it looks like a direct hit on that zone.

Storms forming near the Payson forecast area will move southwestward, bringing outflow boundaries through the Phoenix Metro zones and then further through the western part of the county as well later on.  These in the metro zone will be hit and miss, but some may approach the severe warning limits.

Damaging winds, large hail, and flooding will be possible with the cells today.

As always, we take it one day at a time with these events.
